I'm Lydia Sanders: an apprentice fantasy writer on a quest for wonder and expertise.

On my blog, I review a lot of books, especially fantasy and classics. One of the best things that studying story craft has taught me is how to identify what isn't working for me in a story and explain it--which can be difficult to do without spoilers, but I try.

I also have a series of roundup posts called An Eclectic Writing Class where I collect my favorite writing resources into monthly lessons with sections on productivity, writing craft, writing prompts, grammar, and vocabulary. At the end of these posts, I give a short update on how my own writing goals are progressing.

I want to find (and write) stories that create the sense of wonder and enchantment I had as a child. My favorite books combine good prose with great storytelling and explore deep themes without preaching.

My current work-in-progress is a fantasy novel with a kick-ass female protagonist who must protect her princess on a pilgrimage through demon-infested mountains or face the slow destruction of her country and everything she cares about. Will she have the courage to tell the truth and sacrifice for the people she loves?

I live in the Willamette Valley with my techie husband and the hairless ghost lemur that's been staking me since I started my first blog at age sixteen. I blame him for all of my tech hiccups-the lemur, not the husband! Our dimension-hopping hamster also occasionally visits when he's on Earth for his next sugar-free candy cane fix.

My favorite pastimes include chugging pot after pot of hot tea, playing the recorder, crocheting, studying languages, taking bad photos for social media, and reading Wikipedia articles-it's not procrastination, it's research!

I'm on most popular social media sites as LydiaSandersBooks. On Twitter I'm LydiaSandersBks. You can find the complete list of places to stalk me from the About page on my website.
