UPDATE

Wow, I hadn't realised it had been so long since I last updated, but...things are going well.

I broke my ankle back in November, and slacked off on my Wattpad for way too long. I also moved to a new publisher last year, and that's taken up a lot of my time. Now my first book with them is released, I need to prep about 12 more books in the series, and 2 solo novels, to get them into publishing shape. That's taken away a lot of writing time.

However...I have HIGH hopes of finally being able to get my book "Finally" - now renamed Paper Love - into official publishing condition. It won't be published by the end of 2020, unless a miracle happens, only due to the publisher's schedule for editing, but I have my fingers crossed it WILL happen in 2021. It will, hopefully, be my first book of 2021.

I've started publishing my Surviving Vihaan series, and you can buy book 1, now. There are 5 more novels and a half dozen short stories in the series, to follow. Those of you who have been here the longest may remember it as "Creatures of the Night." The other project I've given my new publisher is The Boys Who Didn't Love Me - a YA novel about a necromancer.

Final note - THANK YOU to all the new followers, commenters, readers who have been delving into my back-catalogue. I hope you're enjoying the stories, and I love reading your comments. <3

Much love to you all, in this horrible, scary, terrifying time of our lives. xxx

UPDATE

I first wrote Paper Love - in its Faithfully incarnation - pre-2016. After it won a Watty Award, I decided it was really as good as I thought it was, so I would publish it.

I began rewriting the book for publishing in Dec 2018. I got 4 chapters in and hated every word.
I began again on the 10th August 2019. Exactly one month and five days later, I have finished.

Faithfully was originally 332 pages. Just over 130k words.
Paper Love is complete at 501 pages. Just over 216k words.

It is the longest book I have EVER written. It is, perhaps, the BEST thing I've ever written. It took me on a journey I never anticipated. I sacrificed sleep, deadlines, and countless hours to these rewrites. I gave up everything I could to get it done in one go, without stopping to take on another project. I laughed, I cried, and I sobbed my heart out over characters I forgot that I loved.

And now it's done. I can sleep. I can breathe. I can rest. Until it's time to edit this epic story...but that's a problem for another day.

ElaineWhite

Am growing more and more confused by Paper Love (AKA Faithfully) as I keep going. It feels like it's going to be WAY too long for a novel, but I'm not sure how to cut it down, either.

It feels like this might be more of a personal journey book than a YA romance...and I have no idea what to do with that.

I'm thinking I may have to chop it into "Episodes" that are about 25k long, and hope that works. It would be a SUPER slow-burn that way, but it would make more sense than trying to force it into a <120k book.

I'm already at 90k, with another 150 pages of notes to write. Some of that are paragraph notes that will take an entire page/chapter to write up. A lot of it can just be kept as-is from the original manuscript.

Please be patient a little longer. It's happening. The story feels awesome. It feels BETTER than it was before. But, I just have to figure out how a publisher will view it, and what they might want to do with it. I need to know IF it can be cut down, before they suggest it, so that I know *where* to cut it.

          This may take a while...

For those of you who are waiting for Faithfully...I am getting there!

I am on page 100 and most of that is NEW material! I had to do major rewrites to make the plot work, because I've grown so much as a writer since I first wrote the book that it didn't feel like "me" anymore. And some of it wasn't logical or legal. I also took on board a lot of your original comments from when the story was on Wattpad, especially about the way Rocco got involved with the hospital.

I've actually DELETED a lot of the original book. Some characters were removed. New ones replaced the old. It's a bit more mature than it used to me, as is Rocco. He's grown as much as I have, in the last few years, and I think that's why I couldn't do the rewrites before now. I wanted to basically keep the original story, but I can see now that was a mistake and that was why it's taken me so long to get into a good flow of rewriting it.

I still have 300+ pages of notes from the original book. Fingers crossed, in just a few more chapters, I'll be able to keep the majority of those pages. At least a good 200 of them, I hope. Things should progress well, once I reach that stage. If you can believe it, I've only JUST reached the place where Rocco is about to move in with the Peabody boys.

It was a lot of hard work and stress to get this far, but I finally feel like the book - now renamed Paper Love - is something I can be proud of. It's always been my favourite, but now it's like the previous story was the bud and it's only now come into bloom. I feel good about it again.

I hope you guys will love PAPER LOVE as much as I do. xx

ElaineWhite

@VaishnavibBarai Thank you! xx I'm really excited too. I can't wait for you guys to read the new parts, because I really feel like it's so much better. You have all been SO supportive of this story and have been so patient, waiting for me to get it released! I couldn't have done it without all my Wattpad readers pushing me to get it done.

UPDATE:

          * No, I didn't get around to moving the shorts for The Royal Series. This was due to me getting sick, but it will be done before the end of the year.

          * I have been having A LOT of trouble with my rewrites for Faithfully. I need to get it into publishing shape and some of the factual stuff was way wrong, so I had to fix that before doing anything else. Now, I'm at the stage of renaming some characters (due to the name being used in another published book, by accident) and making it all shiny and pretty. I've renamed the book - Paper Love - mostly because I came up with this super gorgeous logo that I want to use, and the name better fits the storyline.

          * I will NOT be publishing any new works, in the foreseeable future. This is for one simple reason - the publishers that I would submit my work to, for LGBT fiction, consider Wattpad to be self-publishing. So any book I take to them from Wattpad is classed as "previously published". This changes things considerably, making the whole publishing process more complicated than it needs to be. So, I won't be adding any new work for a while, unless I know I don't want to eventually publish that book. Sorry, but I have to think long-term.

Thanks, as always, for reading what I've already got posted. Your love for The Belesone Pack makes my heart melt. xx

Some time this week, I'll be moving over Promised to Him and Love on a Battlefield into a new book.
          They will NOT be disappearing!
They will simply be moving into a combined novel of shorts related to The Royal Series. It will be easier for promoting the series/stories to keep them all in one place.
The book will be - A Royal Archive - and will be the place to find perma-free stories related to The Royal Series. I do not currently plan on writing any more stories within this world, but if I ever do, I will put them here.
So, if you like The Royal Series, keep your eyes peeled and prepare to bookmark A Royal Archive. x

Hi, Elaine!

(I actually discovered you through your blog, wasn't expecting you'd be a fellow Wattpadder...)
So, basically, I found something written by you that I couldn't confirm elsewhere on the internet and was hoping you could explain to me why did you pick this number and how sure you are about it: "Anything ‘historical’ in the fiction world is generally considered anything twenty-five years before the novel is written."
I'm about to delve into my first historical piece of fiction, so your opinion on this matter is quite important to me.

          Thank you,
          Fluffy

@fluffypuff_IV Hi. Unfortunately, I can't find the reference you mean on my blog. However, I was able to find that quote online, and it's from a famous author "Lynda Adamson, in her preface to the bibliographic reference work World Historical Fiction, states that while a "generally accepted definition" for the historical novel is a novel "about a time period at least 25 years before it was written".
I often reblog articles that I've found useful, so I think this is one of those instances.
I, myself, have no set opinion on what "historical" should constitute. I think there are quite a lot of ways to define historical, e.g. I would hardly consider my own childhood days of the early 90s 'historical' but in both music and literature, that tends to be what is happening.
You might find some help here - https://historicalnovelsociety.org/guides/defining-the-genre-what-are-the-rules-for-historical-fiction/
Thanks for getting in touch, and thanks for checking out my blog. :)

@VaishnavibBarai Thanks for asking! Unfortunately, Faithfully was taken down so that I could re-write and publish it, but it hasn't quite worked out to plan. There was a huge plot issue that I haven't been able to fix yet, so it's been delayed. I'm hoping to have it published in 2020.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I hope to have it available to read again soon.

Although I recently added really nice, white, clear covers for Promised to Him and Love in a Battlefield, I had to change them.
As much as I love the chess covers, an anthology I was *possibly* going to add these stories to is already full, so I wanted to change the covers to *officially* reflect the same style/theme of the rest of the series.
It has now been decided that these two books will remain forever free, for those who read and enjoy the Royal Series. x
