I am an author, environmentalist, and music teacher. I love nature and wild spaces. In my writing I explore relationships between people and nature. I live in the interior of British Columbia, in Canada.
The Sarah Spellings series was inspired by imagining what life might be like in a post-climate-change world. What if roads were cracked, bridges toppled, and no one could travel by car? How would people adapt, where would they live, what would they eat? There might be some who want a return to the security of grocery stores and gas-powered cars, and others who want to build a different kind of civilization.
This planet has true magic in its forces of nature. Sarah discovers she has inherited the power to harness natural phenomena, to make things grow, and to command weather. Her adventure begins near her childhood home, on the Pacific northwest coast. Electricity is scarce, so the night is dark, and a ferocious storm rushes in from the ocean...
