Protect and Possess
Never let it be said that Lutessa Baron's brother was not protective over her. He certainly was. So was his best friend, Finch Augustus--in fact, Finch a little more so. Quiet, coy, and out-of-the-way, among strangers, Tessa's used to it. Being the human in a werewolf community in backwoods of North Carolina, Tessa doesn't have to be told where her place is. She knows it, even if she soon loathes it.
With parents absent, Olsen is left to raise his only sister by himself. He protects her. He "tries" to help and take care of her. Finch looks after Lutessa when Olsen can't be there for her. As her only sibling, she's not surprised he's protective. As she is part of the family, the whole pack takes the same approach to her as they do any member of the family--just not as much as she (or the humans in general) might like.
But Olsen can be a little overprotective, as can Finch. Which is why when Lu is needed to stay behind while Olsen handles the Alpha's orders, he leaves Finch with her, knowing he'll protect her from anything. After all, Finch has been infatuated with Tessa since they were children.
Lutessa has had a crush on Finch ever since she met him, but being the quiet, shy, and insecure girl, she's not sure how to say it. She isn't blind. She knows he wants her, she knows he sees her as his mate. And friend or more, she will always belong to him. But she's scared of the outcome, as any 17-year-old girl would be.
What if it doesn't work out? What if someone else was to come along and before she knew it Finch belonged to another girl? What if she herself belonged to someone else?
In a world where mates are something both guaranteed yet unpredictable, it's not as easy to simply date your brother's best friend. But Tessa soon realizes her unstable link with Finch is not the only thing she has to worry about. Life as a human in a wolf community is never normal. Anywhere.
