Patricia Baker: Being a Fabulously Amazing T...
Winner: The Write and Win Contest, 2016.
"There's a fat girl in every thin girl and a thin girl in every fat girl."
All Patricia Baker has ever wanted is to lose weight. To be - not thin - but just not fat (and that's putting it lightly). Hell, if Santa existed, she'd put it in her wish list; along the lines of wishing for foods that have no calories whatsoever.
According to her, she believes that losing weight will bring her peace. That the bullying will stop if she isn't fat anymore. After hitting a brick wall in her weight-loss regime, where the remaining fat won't come off no matter how hard she tries, Patricia decides to "fit-in" for the time being. Become unnoticeable. There's only a year and half remaining until she graduates isn't there? She can totally live through that.
However, with the presence of a suddenly spiritual family, a meddlesome, overzealous coach and a really nosy boy, being invisible would be the last thing on Patricia's agenda this semester. Through them, Patricia learns that it is not the prettiness on the outside that matters, but the beauty on the inside that changes the world.
And in order for her eyes to be open to the love of others for her, she has to learn to love herself first.
