Monster's Kiss (UPDATED TWICE A WEEK)
When magic decays, even monsters can become beacons of light in the darkness.
The magical creatures that Witches take their powers from by enslaving - through sharing their bodies with - are weak, grown increasingly rare. The traces of their near destruction of humanity has been forgotten by even these women who know its truth, the past remembered as fragments, myths. After all, who cares about the past, some fabled Traitor King, when the world seems poised for a quiet, slow descent into Ragnarok?
A twenty-first-century Witch, Netta has spent her nearly a hundred years of near-immortality, running. Fleeing not only an estranged family, but also a creature she had once dreamed she could wish into a breathing, real man. She has given up her immortality, has allowed her body to age in the past decade for want of magic. She thinks she is alone, safe, from the man who became the embodiment of her greatest fears.
It is when she is welcomed back to her hometown that Netta realizes that she has no right to deem the world as free utterly of magic. As surely as it sings in her blood, it enchains her, drags her back into the shadows she had once thought she could flee.
The largest, most foreboding shadows of her past have been by her side all along, hungering. Lusting. Waiting for her to succumb.
