Emma Newfound had always grown up near the ocean. She loved the crystal clear water of Florida's coast. Emma's life had not been the best. She was always bullied in school, her mom was still recovering from a heartbreaking divorce, and she was self conscious beyond belief. The ocean has always been, and will always be, her escape. One day, the ocean, would change her life forever.

So the skinny blonde blue-eyed tan "too beautiful for this ugly world" girl with a mother that hates her and no friends??? Not only is that implausible but EXTREMELY clichéd. Goodbye.
Careful, you keep switching tenses. Other wise, it's good so far.
In my country it's just rain the entire time or the sky is grey (we have like no sun)
It's very possible for you to have blue eyes while you're family has brown.

That is so funny when I was reading the details of the girl I pictured my friend named Emma! Lol I was not expecting that!
I'd give anything to live right next to an ocean, or any tropical place with clear beaches. I live in Massachusetts and the closest beach is freezing and it's murky. Plus the only time I am able to go to the beach is June-August which sucks.
