Elfriede' (A Pied Piper Retelling)
When sixteen-year-old Nanset hears the call of the violin, she swears it's her older sister Elfriede' trying to reach her.
But Elfriede' is dead, hung by the villagers of D'Mongeruz.
Awakening from a twelve-year-long slumber, the townspeople have seemingly forgotten the memory of their children, but Nanset is determined to hold on to them--and her sister's.
Nanset swears the somber chords are calling from the mountains-from her sister-despite being told Elfriede' never existed.
Even their parents, who watched her hang by the noose, have forgotten her.
Then Nanset meets Rune, a boy her age, and her suspicions of the town, of the children, take hold. After all, they are the only two teens in D'Mongeruz. Not to mention, the school sitting like an empty shell of their past in the center of town. Then Rune let's her in on a secret: he can hear the call of the violin, too.
