"Yes, it's true. Beautiful things have dents and scratches, too."
The odds of being hit by lightning are 1 in 12,000, but Collie Raynes has always defied the rules of normality. Word spread rapidly around the tiny town of Hawkins that the young girl had been struck during an especially severe storm. It was even more startling to learn that she'd acquired white scars along her face and within her hair, an outcome from lightning that had surely never occurred prior to that summer.
At sixteen, Collie lead a customary life, though she never really took to the other teenagers. Instead, she poured her interest into words. Being a logophile came with its perks at school, and she quite enjoyed being able to speak in rarely used words that no one understood.
However, Collie could never find the words to describe Jonathan Byers. The pair were playmates as children and she was really the only person his age he interacted with, though along the way a silent endearment formed.
When Will Byers, Jonathan's younger brother, disappears without a trace, Collie is thrown into Hawkins' mysterious secrets and dark past without any warning. Dots begin connecting, and though she doesn't realize it yet, Collie is one of the biggest of them all.
