The Promise | o n - g o i n g
"Promise you'll come back next summer?" 12 year-old Jack asked me.
"I promise," I whispered and he smiled showing his dimples and hugged me I hugged him back tears threatening to fall from my pale face.
"Elsa, it's time to go," mom said putting a hand on my shoulder. We let go and Jack gave me a sad smile. I turned to my mom and nodded. We went inside the car and I saw that Anna is already there sleeping. I looked at the window and saw Jack waving at me, I gave him a smile and gave him a small wave. Dad started the engine and drove away.
I took one last glance at our summer house here in North Carolina knowing that there might be a chance that I might never come back.
Knowing that I might break his promise.
