"Now, Mckenney," Dr. Owen leaned forward, "I am highly confident that you are the perfect little and some caregiver out there will see that in no time. What happened with... what happened in the past was in no way your fault. It was his responsibility to care for you and keep you safe and happy. You and I have already discussed this, but understand what he did wasn't a punishment, that was abuse and it never should have happened."
Tears rose up in Mickey's eyes and his fingers dug into his bunny, tightening considerably, "But Daddy said-".
"No, remember we talked about this? There are times when littles can be naughty and, yes, Mommies and Daddies sometimes have to discipline them, but it needs to be done correctly, safely, with a clear head. Remember those differences we talked about before between what is okay and what isn't?"
Mickey nodded, taking a sleeve and scrubbing his blurry eyes.
Dr. Owen smiled gently, "Good job. Now, I promise we will work our hardest to find the most perfect Daddy for you once we get you transferred over to the Adoption-Ready wing. We want to make sure you'll find a home where you can be your happiest. Do you think you're ready for that, Mckenney?"
The fear of not being good enough still wrestled around in his mind, however the idea of finding a Daddy that would love and snuggle him and tuck him in at night, the possibility of getting that chance... He's already seen hell, why not give happiness another chance?
