Soldiers are a common theme in the war torn empire Lihua lives in, so when her parents arrange a marriage for her to a poor soldier who has nothing on his name and nothing to offer her, she isn't that surprised. A woman's job is to marry and have children, so Lihua doesn't expect much from her betrothed. However, her husband-to-be is possibly destined for greater things and a single dream is all it takes to rise as the Xuanlong.

A few questions: if you aren't Chinese then how did you come up with the names and why did you decide to write about Chinese characters and not your own ethnicity? (assuming you aren't white)

A little heads up; okay so I come from Hong Kong and speak Chinese and the correct word for black dragon is heilong (Hei meaning black). I'm sorry but I've never heard the term xuan being used for the word black

Thank you. I was a bit confused at first but this clears it up. I thought my Chinese was just really bad.
