among the gray
"i think it's time you gave up on him."
"i think it's time too. the question is
whether or not i can."
"why can't you?"
i look at his eyes that are even bluer
than alex's and i sigh,
"because i love him, ethan.
and you can't just unlove somebody."
when sophie meets alex, her world explodes into vibrant color.
she had never loved anybody so fiercely.
eventually, though, alex begins to drain her world of the color he had given her.
eventually, all sophie can see is gray, except for him.
tell me, what do you do, when every time you hear his name, you see red?
told in verse, 'among the gray' tells a story of young love that turns from passionate to poisonous. as readers follow sophie through her final years of high school, they discover that she struggles not only with the normal trials of being a teenager, but is also struggling to come to terms with the true nature of her relationship, both during and after it. this story delves deep into the world of emotional abuse and its effects, bringing to light a type of abuse that often goes unnoticed and unrecognized.
