"But I don't want a mate," I said, my voice in a low whisper. I tried to break it as gently as possible. It was time to accept the fact that I could never be with my mate. The mate I always wanted, despite my words.
"Me neither." His answer hurt me. I guess I expected him to growl at me or beg me to change my mind. He didn't want me either.
He took a deep breath, "I, Alexander Knight, reject you, Lila Reid as my mate."
I was overwhelmed with a wave of agonising pain. I almost doubled over, not being able to handle it. My knees buckled and I almost fell to the ground, until he caught me.
"Lila, accept my rejection! PLEASE, ACCEPT IT!" he screamed at me. It sounded pained. I didn't want to accept it. But I had to. To stop the pain.
"I, Lila Reid, accept your rejection," I gasped out. It was done. I lost my mate.
