Anthony Smith has more than a decade of experience as an academic counselor. He earned his education at San Francisco State University, and has worked with many schools including Berkeley High School. He began his career in 1998 as an elementary school teacher. He worked with students in the third, fourth, and fifth grades and he was a self-contained teacher. In 2002, he decided to return to school and earn an advanced degree. He enrolled in the University of La Verne's Master of Science program. In 2004, he graduated with a Master of Science with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential (MS PPSC) in Counseling. He had already begun working at a high school, and he worked hard to build a successful career in this field.
In August of 2004, Anthony Smith Berkeley became the academic counselor at Berkeley High School in the Berkeley Unified School District. He managed a case load of more than 400 students and worked hard to help each one. His main responsibilities included counseling students on matters involving their academics, their vocational goals, and their social lives. He worked hard to help his students with any issues they may have had. He routinely met with students to advise them on their academic standing and to help them get the resources or educational accommodations they needed. He also organized parent-teacher conferences for students who were struggling.
One of Smith's main focuses was to help students figure out what to do after high school. He provided information about colleges and the college application process. He also worked with students to inform them about vocational options. His goal was to help his students build strong and successful futures. He helped students understand their academic transcripts and plan for their futures.
While he was with Berkeley High School, Anthony Smith also worked with the football team.
