Tides at Twilight
Black spots begin to cloud my vision as I lay on the floor, struggling to breathe. It doesn't even hurt anymore; my body has become numb. I try to focus on staying awake because I know that if I fall asleep, I won't wake back up.
Suddenly, I see his bright orange eyes. He's here. I try to smile, to tell him the three words that I've always wanted to say. I see his eyes begin to fill with tears and I realize that this is the first time I've seen him cry. I want so badly to reach up and touch his face, but my body seems as though it isn't working anymore. He leans down and touches his forehead to mine.
"Don't leave me," he whispers.
I want to comfort him. To tell him that I'm not leaving. To tell him those three little words. But I feel my body start to shut down completely. My heart begins to wind down and I struggle to stay awake. Tears run down my face and he reaches up to take my face in his hands. Tears slide down his cheeks too and he whispers the three little words that I want to say so badly.
"I love you."
And with that, the darkness consumes me whole.
