She is suffering from a mysterious illness when Karl Heinz suddenly rips her from her family and throws her into the den of vampires. Excerpt:

I didn't feel the pain when he sank his fangs under my earlobe and started sucking eagerly.

"You... are going... to be...really... fun... to break..." he panted between gulps.

I dizzily stared out into the room as he said those words. Was that what they wanted? To take my blood, body and spirit?

They had already taken my blood, and I was certain they were going to take my body. I couldn't let them have more than that. For the sake of my son, I had to remain brave. I had to make it out of this place alive and whole. I couldn't return to him as a broken mother. I wouldn't.

"Ahhh..." he sighed, pulling away from my neck. He brought his eyes even with mine, so close I could feel his hot breath on my lips. My consciousness waned as I watched a line of my blood run down his chin.

"Do you want to know what I think the best feeling is?" His eyes practically twinkled as he cupped my face in both his hands. "Watching the eyes of a human when hope is taken away from them. That moment when despair takes over. That moment."

The vampire grinned at me -- a terrifying, sickening grin. I held his gaze, trying to remain steady and calm. But I'm certain he saw the flash of fear, that he saw his words already threatened my resolve.

How long could my courage really last against something like them?
