“And my blood is all I see as you steal my soul from me.” - My Blood
Lira Hudson’s eighteenth birthday is in six months, and for her, that means Operation Day is right around the corner. Born without a counterpart—a second body designed and coded specifically to match her own—Lira is considered to be faulty; a defect. On the day she turns eighteen, her soul will be taken from her body and put on a waiting list. Her originate body? Terminated.
If no counterpart can be manifested, her soul will be given to someone in need, or ejected into the galaxy. On the same night of her operation finalization, she is recruited by another defect. He gives her the choice to take refuge in the Outlands: regions of land inhabited by defects from all ten cities. Lira’s answer should be obvious, but the Outlands aren’t any safer than the cities.
She has only two things to keep in mind; whether she stays in Cyrus, her city—or if she joins the rest of her kind in the Outlands.
To protect her soul…
…Or die trying.
