It is London, 1814. And vampyres are nothing more than superstition borne across the English Channel; only gothic tales of Eastern European horror. Still, there will always be those that do believe...
To Emma Lucas, however, Vampirology is merely a pastime indulged by crackpot eccentrics; and, oddly enough, by beautiful enigmatic book collectors. They are not to be taken seriously by plain aspiring governesses, nor, indeed, by rational skeptics such as she believes herself to be. She would require proof more substantial than macabre London deaths and queer rumormongering.
But it is within the ancient ramparts of Winterly Castle, amidst the foggy Yorkshire moors, that, to her horror, Emma finds that inescapable proof. And who better to 'enlighten' her than the brooding master himself.
