Blades: Finding Purpose
Everyone has a purpose.
⍟ Nicole "Nani" Jackson, grew up in a small community within the city of Houston. She was 16 years old when she started falling hard for her school's star football player, Kamal Anderson. They started off as high school sweethearts and back then a fantasy of the good life filled with money, champagne bottles, designer clothes, and flashing lights is what Kamal had planned for them. By the time they both graduated and were 18, Kamal was being drafted into the NFL. This was their shot at experiencing the big time together and nothing was going to stop Nicole from being with him. Not even the many objections and warnings given by her loved ones. So, she packed her things and ran away with him to New York. Never looking back until [...]
[...] Now. Fast forward 8 years later, and Nicole regrets the decision she made in her youth. The first love she once knew is long gone due to the fame and fortune that's gone to his head. He's all about living the fast life. And the fact that he and Nicole are still engaged after 8 years and she even birthed a child for him during that time shows how things have changed between them. Nicole isn't content with her stagnant life and wants more than to be a trophy for her fiancé to show off and look good for his image. An incident he lies about only makes her decision that much more final. So, in desperation to find some self-purpose, Nicole returns to Houston for a "fresh" start that's also familiar. She finds work at her uncle's barbershop, The 713, which is still the pillar of the neighborhood like it was when she was a teenager. It's here that she finds a place where she fits in and learns how to fend for herself. She develops a few friendships to last her a lifetime, makes up for lost time with her family, and meets a god walking amongst men that gives her a new definition of what it means to be in love. ⍟
