The Sweetest Fruit
What do you imagine when you hear the words dreary and desolate? Try to picture it now and you might get some small scope of what the Wastes is like. It's a dead world, where only weeds grow and the creatures are just as twisted and barbaric as the land itself. They did warn us that climate change was coming. The remaining people knot together in shanty towns but that comes with its own fair share of dangers - whoever said there was safety in numbers was a liar. Crowds just draw the attention of the Yellow Eyes.
There are other places: the cities, a shining symbol of all that utopia can be. And the Servergates that allow them to thrive, filled with all the brain power and technology that mankind has to offer. Great hulking Dustships, driven on their thick tyres by the high winds, carry goods between these most impressive fonts of civilisation. Or so they seem to be. But for most the cities are an unseen rumour, the bone bleached world of the Wastes are home and coffin.
You might be wondering why anyone would choose to live here. The answer is simple: they didn't...
Follow two people and their lives in this bitter hellhole: Samiya Brande, Dustpirate extraordinaire, and her best friend, Coda Carpenter, a daring computer programmer and engineer. When the two become separated, one destined for a life in the Servergates and the other doomed to remain behind, they will do everything they can to become reunited. Along the way they'll meet a whole host of others; from an AI living in a watch to a slave girl to an augmented human to a daring Dust Bandit. Read on for a tale of adventure, action and survival.
