Though she should be enjoying her daughter Maggie's sixth birthday party, Lia Cooper is panicked. She is disoriented. There is a lot of chaos and noise. She doesn't know what to do. Everything she sees and hears is distorted-especially everything those mothers and her husband are saying. All of this seems like an accident. She shouldn't be here. She has to leave. She does.
Patchwork tells the story of how Lia and Maggie leave their suburban Philadelphia life and end up on the secluded New England coast. While there, Lia tries to patch up her life, as well as the secluded, weathered vacation cottage her parents used to rent. In this setting, Lia has to face what happened to her as a child, as well as understand how those events colored her adulthood. Will she let herself move forward into a new life in this town or will she continue to drown, much like her parents did years ago?
