Annabeth Washington is not your average teenager in 1963 Alabama. She has a dream, a desire to leave Alabama and embrace a more diverse lifestyle, despite her fathers Dixiecratic Views on the coloreds and her mothers acceptance of everything her Daddy says and does.
In an effort to escape the suffocating presence of white racists at a Holiday party in Birmingham, Annabeth decides to take a leisurely stroll alone.
She wanders too far.
Before she knows what's happening, she's cornered by two teenage boys, who want a whole lot more from her than just her purse:
And then, in the blink of an eye, she is saved, her attackers in puddles of filth at her feet...

He was muscular, just enough so to prove that he knew his fair share of hard labor.
His hair was cut short to his head, a deep black, with small waves.
He was dressed in ordinary holiday clothing, a pair of grey slacks and a white button up shirt, assumingly his Sunday best.
He had perfect, unblemished mocha skin, not too dark, but definitely not white..."

This is fantastic, best book I've ever read. Better writing than some of the books I've read. Great job, keep doing what you're doing. :)
