Following the fall of the Chinese empire, the gods ascended into the heavens, and the Dragon Throne, which had served as the tie between the mortal and immortal worlds, sat empty for many decades. The world was far from perfect, but life continued on without the gods. The mythical Jade City-the last refuge for those seeking to practice the old traditions-came to accept that age of the empire and of the gods was over. That is, until Heaven chose the unlikeliest of children as the Heirs to the throne.

To save China from an ancient evil so terrible, it almost conquered Heaven, the Heirs must restore the throne and restore the gods. But can they accomplish this task, while simultaneously battling each other for the right to rule that is the Mandate of Heaven?

Four have been marked by Heaven, but only one can be emperor.

For thousands of years, many people whether in cultivation or not would pray to the gods for all kinds of help. Some would pray just to have something to believe in. others for wealth, fame, love, or protection. The gods In heaven would answer to these prayers, though in some cases they may not be answered as quickly as people would hope. Times change and so do people. The beliefs of the gods still hold strong, but nowadays many pray for mostly protection as ghouls, zombies, and fierce spirits continue to roam in the mortal realm. The hard work now falls into the hands of cultivators and their sects. Now offerings are given to gods for protection more than anything. However, in a single night many temples and shrines have come to burn to the ground and left behind would be dark flames of resentful energy. This evil being is corrupted with hatred and has reached devastation like levels. Maybe even beyond that. With their strengths lowering, the gods must seek help from the Yiling Patriarch and his companions.
