'The Wounded Talisman' is the first book in 'The Zinder', a mystical science fantasy series due for release early 2018. More at

It's as old as time, aged through eons, and sculpted by the wisest and most talented artisans and magicians. In the early twentieth century it lay forgotten and alone, buried on a small mountain in Queensland, Australia. To fulfil its purpose it called upon the first samaran who named it the zinder. In return for protection it gifted her unique talents and access to its secrets.

Since then four generations of samaran have been its custodians. Each inherits talents far superior to the last, advancing their legacy and growing a deep bond with the living object.

At the start of the twenty-first century the sixth samaran is born with the talents of her predecessors merged into a single powerful gift. It's time for the zinder to reveal its reason for being.

Lucida Green is the sixth samaran. At thirteen she already possesses the sum of the powers of those before her, but to earn the zinder she must master her curious gift. After four years of training and daily practice she's on the verge of success when her mother bans the lessons, insisting that it's too dangerous. These are dark days.

When an unexpected visitor appears with an unusual mission Lucy breaks the rules and takes a perilous journey to an unlikely place. Given the zinder before mastering her gift she learns quickly just how bonded they are.

Really nice start. The visualization of the power they have, it's really good.

Great start! I love your header image, too. Fig trees have always seemed rather mysterious to me.
"She often found it hard to tell the difference between real and imagined, especially when one turned out to be the other so often." I'm adding this to my list of favourite book quotes :D

I'm really interested in finding out more about this radiating. You might want to actually give a tiny bit of information about what it is in a 10 year old's perspective and how it makes her feel. I look forward to reading more.
