I enjoyed reading this first chapter. You gave just enough info to make me want to keep reading, and your writing style is so clean and to the point, that it made reading this a total breeze! :)

Nice start to the story. Plenty of action and one has to wonder what caused just a harden warrior to allow herself to be hit. Flow of word are good and the pacing is fast. It will be interesting to see how his progress.

One more thing, I think you should have Adelaide say, "It couldn't be. Impossible.". Having her say that will have a strong impact with her reaction.

Isn't Erebus the embodiment of darkness from Greek Mythology? By the way, do you play Magic The Gathering?

This was a very good strart! I like the pacing, the information was well paced and not overwhelming, and most of all it felt original. Even though there's already tons of stuff out there like this, you've given it new life by writing your own take on it. And so far it's really paid off. ;)
