The shock of sudden death of Mr. Hale crushes Mr. Bell, rendering him unable to bring the sad news to Margaret himself. He is forced to delegate the terrible duty to the only one he can entrust it: his friend and tenant Mr. Thornton.
Your imagery in this chapter is starkly beautiful. It conveyed the distraught feelings of your characters perfectly! You've definitely kept the angst in play, too. Why can they not see?
I love this twist, but poor Mr. Bell. I can't wait to see how this will influence things!
I love the way he lays his palm on her door, digging up the courage to knock. How very Thornton!
Love the first chapter! Poor John in the hot seat, but who better?
So, thornton learns the truth about her brother and gets a hint (though he seems blind to it) that Margaret likes him more than he thinks. Great chapter!
I love this twist on one of my favorite classics! I'm off to chapter 2.
