Colossal monsters known as dragons came through the void a thousand years ago, wiping out most of the world's population. As mankind struggled to survive, it was discovered that certain children had awoken into supernatural powers, acquiring the ability to perform true magic. Using these cursed children as weapons, humanity took a last stand and fought back, even as their enemy evolves to take on deadlier guises with the arrival of demons.

  Book 1:
One day, 11-year old Jonah awakens to the manifestation of a strange mark on his right hand. In his village, those with the mark are ostracized as a cursed one, a child of ill omen. In coping with the stigma of being an outsider, he finds a new friend. When a practitioner of magic crosses his path, he learns more about himself, unlocking the mysterious potential within. Trust and his belief in himself are tested when a new threat arises. Can he prevent tragedy before it is too late?

  Book 2:
Three years after the destruction of his village, 14-year old Jonah and his 6-year old little sister Ellie continue their search for a new home. When he encounters a girl with a mysterious past, emotions have to be wrestled with as darkness lurks in the shadows. Along his journey, he finds a shapeshifting beast, a traveling troupe, and the gates of a golden city. What happens when tragedy strikes and his life changes forever?

This is magical. I love how we already get a sense of the politics surrounding your fictional world, it's good. You are making it come to life, hence why it is so vivid. Interesting start.
