AEGIS ↠ EMBRY CALL [W.U]
"When you see her, everything changes. All of a sudden it's not gravity holding you to the planet, it's her. Nothing else matters. You would do anything; be anything for her."
After the death of their parents, Reed and Callas Quinn move back to the small community of La Push, Washington, to live with their grandparents.
The Quileute Reservation, where they had grown up, seems even more welcoming and home-like since they moved back. Although, Reed remembers it slightly differently to his younger sister, Callas. Mainly because he was the one who was told by his grandparents about the legends of the tribe, the legend about being descended from wolves and how the wolves were their brothers still, and genuinely wanted to believe that maybe, just possibly, that it was true.
Unlike her brother, Callas was never really phased by the legends that their tribe had brought them up on. She couldn't really remember much of the stories anyway, being so young when their father took them out of La Push to live somewhere else, after the death of their mother had taken a toll on him.
But returning once more, ten years later, with Reed being almost twenty and more able to look after his sixteen-year-old sister, he falls back into the comfort of the legends and myths of the tribe. Maybe too comfortably. While Callas sees it as an opportunity to finally be back to her roots, back to her loving grandparents and ageing dog, and to finally feel like she belongs.
Callas wasn't the type of person to mind moving, having done it for over half of her life. So, transferring to La Push High School wasn't weighing heavily on her mind. But accidentally bumping into a group of russet-coloured skinned boys, while in her own mind, did.
Her connection to the boys was almost instant, which put Reed slightly on edge. Especially if he believed the legends to be true.
