The Probabilities of Maybe
❝ Am I my brother's keeper? ❞
Unlike most of his peers, starting his senior year of high school is dreadful for seventeen-year-old Nico Brown. It's only been a few short months since the tragic unsolved shooting death of his older brother, Justin. The media paints the picture as though Justin's murder was gang related, and even his own mother has succumbed to this belief -- but Nico knows better.
Justin wasn't supposed to die, he was the good guy, the popular athlete, a good scholar and Samaritan, and his murder hasn't set well with Nico at all. Against the gritty backdrop of the downtown area in the city of Mercer, Ohio, known as Hamilton Park, tragedies like this aren't anything new. With an unwanted spotlight casting down on him, along with many unanswered questions, Nico can't find any peace. All that's on his mind is vengeance.
Through the urging of his peers and stepfather to leave the police work to the police, Nico begrudgingly finds a welcome distraction in sullen and broken classmate, Sabrina Arnold. However, forming an unlikely friendship and possibly is more no match even for Nico's quest for the truth. As time goes on and dust begins to settle on Justin's case, Nico decides to investigate and hit the streets on his own, to find the answers that the police won't, even if it kills him.
