The Woodlands of Pepper's Creek
Baylor Reynolds lives in a country where parents abandon their kids at 10 years old, creating a very self reliant society. With such seclusion in everyone's lives, it is frowned upon to have close relationships with more than one or two people. However, when Baylor meets a group of four kids who are strangely acquainted with each other, she finds friendship in them. The four kids, Shawna Eigengrau, Emili Crauze, Louis Fischer, and Leonardo Cromwell, invite Baylor to live with them, where they reveal to her their plan; to create a safe haven for kids who cannot deal with growing up alone. The four kids go by animal nicknames when talking to each other, and appropriately call their plan the Roost. Swan, Mouse, Fish, and Crow create Bay's very own alias, Bear. All seems well, until the government stops by. Bear soon learns the danger of the Roost, and becomes conflicted as to what she should do. But as the tension between the group grows greater, Bear questions if she should even be there at all.
