BEING REWRITTEN YEAH BECAUSE NO I panted, looking behind me as I ran. I looked back ahead of me, quickly fixing my backpack, which was slowly slipping from my shoulders. I kept pushing on though, hoping to make it out of town by midnight. Nothing was going to stop me, nothing. I slowed down my sprint into a jog, and then to a walk. I looked behind me, and after making sure there was no one, I stopped and sat down on the sidewalk, pressing my knees against my chest and wrapping my arms around them. I made a mental effort not to cry, but ended up letting a few tears slip down my cheeks. My heavy breathing didn't help either, and soon I was bawling in the middle of a street at ten o'clock at night. Once I was done letting the tears fall, I took a deep breath, having gained back my even breathing. I stood up, fixing my backpack again, and starting to walk down the street when I ran into someone. I gasped and looked up, about to say sorry, but failing to let words out and instead started sobbing. I looked down at my feet, letting my hair fall in front of my face. "Holy shit, are you okay?" I looked back up, only to be met with a owl mask. I cocked my head slightly to the side, staring into the huge yellow eyes. I took a quick breath in, and looked away. I wanted to say I was fine, but who would believe that? An eighteen year old girl red faced and puffy eyed, saying she was fine. As if. "I-No. But don't worry. I don't want to burden you." The man smiled, and shook his head. "It's no burden at all," he stuck his hand out, "name's Vanoss." I smiled, quickly dragging my hands down my skinny jeans to dry them off. I stuck my hand in his, and shook it. "Rylee."
