The Duchess Diaries
My name is Charlotte Bourne, and at the young age of seventeen I was promised in marriage to a man old enough to be my grandfather. I suppose you think I want you to feel sorry for me ... but that is just not true. You see, my elderly husband died after three years of amicable marriage, leaving me a great deal of wealth, a beautiful dower house, a great number of valuable possessions, and the title of Duchess. The wealthiest eligible woman in London, I am quite a catch on the marriage mart. The only problem is that I have no intention of remarrying. I spent my life bowing to the whims of my parents, and eventually my husband. Now that I am finally free, I intend to enjoy my life, and that includes availing myself to the charms of the eligible bachelor of my choosing. Perhaps you find me quite scandalous if I confess that the bachelor of my choosing may vary from week to week. After all, I am a woman of considerable sexual appetites. But perhaps you enjoy a bit of scandal ... I know I do.
