The Kismet Trials
Rae is a small town village girl whose only concern is providing food for her fatigued mother and sickly little brother. But when Spring comes, so does the yearly tradition of the Kismet Trials, and people from all three regions gather to compete in them. Yet she has no interest, for their purpose is to give people wealth, fame, adventure, or recognition by the Impero.
However, that's until Rae realizes if she results as one of the champions, she could possibly save her little brother.
Realizing this is the only hope to keep her brother alive, she heads to the city with her spirit companion Kora, determined to make it through to the very end. But Rae's confidence is low, for she is just a girl with a hydrokinesis soulability. With a wide range of soulabilities, others move objects with their minds, summon weapons out of thin air, control stronger elements, or even cause earthquakes. If Rae wants to win, she will have to know her strengths and weaknesses, along with other possible winners'. As she begins to partake in the Kismet Trials, she meets Soren, an electric soul who she runs into during her traveling. She ends up creating a pact with Soren, and they become partners.
But something is rising after five hundred years of dormancy, and Rae will soon discover that the trials are just the beginning to an even larger set of events.
