"The doors slammed behind me and I jumped. I was swallowed into the dark, which seemed to penetrate me from all angles. I...could not see anything in the complete darkness so I just lay completely still, barely breathing. But the man with me in the darkness was breathing. In fact, I could feel his breath on my face so he had to be standing over me. I tried to find a happy place but gave up when I could feel him inhaling as well as exhaling. I let out a scream and sat up quickly. This resulted in us knocking heads. Well, I kind of hit his nose. This made him gasp and swear. I tried to control my laughter. Only I, the klutz, could manage to assault him in such a way. But eventually I failed. I wasn’t sure if I was laughing because it was funny or if I was nervous that the unknown male would be mad.

“Why are you laughing,” came the voice again. It was nasally this time.

“I don’t know,” I said, my voice shaking.

I heard him stand up. Then he reached for my hand. It felt icy on my skin. I flinched at his touch.

“Don’t be afraid,” came the low voice. It did not seem so sinister this time.

“Who are you?” I asked.

“I am Lord Avon Hemlock,” he said simply.

Belladonna has always lived in the shadow of her older sisters. Saddled with an ill-fitting nickname, she cannot compare with their poise and talent. But what she lacks in external beauty, she makes up with bravery, compassion, and brains. When her life is turned upside down, Belladonna finds that survival takes more than physical beauty. She finds more than she bargains for in a lakeside castle. What she thought was a summer job turns out to be the fortuitous meeting between two different people who need each other more than either of them realize. Belladonna learns that it takes more than beauty to tame a beast and that brains cannot tame a beast called true love. Loosely based on Beauty and the Beast.

what part of Minnesota? up north is where I personally think is the prettiest, but that's my opinion. I live kinda by Minneapolis, so I read more than I go outside.
