"Just to summarize, the end of the world was when I was eleven. Jack is the devil disguised as a human. My mother is a coward. My dad was my hideaway. My siblings were my rock. None of it matters now, however, because almost all of them are gone."
15 year old Sarah is on a ride home with her family when her stepfather, Jack, loses control the vehicle and they crash on the highway. This is seen as good for Sarah, as she had been planning her death for awhile because of her abusive living situations at home, which were all caused by Jack, who Sarah though as "the devil in a humans body"
When Sarah wakes in the hospital, she learns that all of her family died in the crash, including her mother, sister, and two brothers. But miraculously, Jack, of all people, survives. Distraught by her sudden loss, Sarah loathes Jack and blames him for everything. When Sarah moves in with her only living family member, her father, Sarah revisits her awful past with Jack in the picture and decides whether or not to comes to terms with what happened and eventually forgive him, or stay isolated from Jack and her family forever.
