The night Rosy was born, a comet passed over the earth. Only visible from a handful of states, clouds filling the skies, it was a miracle her mother saw it through the window of the ambulance. But she not only saw it, she named her baby girl after it. Rosy's comet. It only visited once every eleven years.

However, after her mother pulled a runner, Rosy's father dedicated the first eleven years of her life to a thorough education in fear and disappointment. He put on a good front, but when the doors were closed, the masks came off. The next time Rosy's comet passed overhead, the world she knew came crashing down. But she survived, and that's what mattered - even if she only had the stars, her sisters, and Grube left to guide her.

And then there was Luke, her unexpected angel of hope who'd kept her fighting when it seemed impossible, who'd picked her up in the aftermath of her darkest moments. He'd shown her what real love looked like, what it felt like. And she'd fallen for him slowly, steadily, until she'd lost sight entirely of where her soul ended and his began.

But on the night everything was supposed to change, the night they were supposed to start their forever, the night Rosy's comet returned for a third time - Luke, her best friend, her confidante, the love of her life... her groom... didn't show. And Rosy discovered firsthand that there's only so much disappointment a soul can take before the damage becomes irreversible.
