Lexie had always been the kind of kid who felt a little lost. She was adopted by her father, Richard, only to be given away to his sister, Angelica Howard, when she was just seven years old-because for Richard, business always came first, even before his daughter. Soon after this the Howards decided to adopt Lexie from Richard and due to his work Richard had no choice but to agree.

Growing up with the Howards, Lexie found comfort in her cousin Lucy and often tagged along on visits to their family friends, the Walters. Traveling became her escape, her way of making sense of a world that didn't always want her. But everything changed the day tragedy struck. After losing both her aunt and uncle-and Lucy along with them-Lexie's world shattered.

She and her cousin Jackie were sent to live with the Walters. For Jackie, Colorado was unfamiliar, but for Lexie, it was a place she had known during summers past. Still, nothing could prepare her for what awaited her there. Her childhood nemesis, Isaac Garcia, had not only grown taller and hotter over the summer-his ego had grown right alongside him.
