Hope Mikaelson always knew that her existence was as special as it was complicated. She is the daughter of the Original Hybrid, the last link in a legendary family, and the bearer of a truly unique power. But when the ancestral spirit of Inadu threatens to consume them all, her parents, Klaus and Hayley, inform her of an unthinkable decision to protect her: the Mikaelsons must disappear. Each must assume a new identity so that Hope can grow up free from the shadow of her destiny.
Cornered and with no other options, the Mikaelsons accept the help of a mysterious figure, a shadow who promises to keep Hope safe in this new and fragile reality. And though Hope remains unaware, her family will be much closer than she imagines, watching her grow from the shadows: a sacrifice for her well-being. Now, at Salvatore High School, Hope Marshall longs for normalcy.
Just as Hope begins to believe that her destiny is a solitary existence, the arrival of two new students disrupts her monotonous daily life. Among them, a boy with eyes as kind as they are intriguing awakens in her a connection she cannot explain. What Hope doesn't know is that this new reality isn't as simple as it seems, and that the threads of her destiny are being woven by that very shadow with hidden motives, in a way that neither she nor the rest of the world can even imagine.
