Richard Griffin was born in 1857 on New York to a family of English extraction. When he was a child, they moved to a cranberry bog in New Jersey. At the age of sixteen he started work as a clerk in New York City. In his spare time he was involved in amateur theatrical productions, subsequently becoming a professional actor and touring extensively throughout the United States and abroad. He served in the Spanish-American war of 1895. According to his own account, he also served in World War I as an intelligence officer, and arrested a German spy after a punch-up. Before and after this service, he lived in Greenwich Village and other parts of Manhattan, and wrote poetry which he self-published. From internal evidence it seems likely that at some stage he spent time in a mental institution. His date of death is unknown but was subsequent to 1931, the date of his last book.
His works have a certain quirky charm which reminds one somewhat of the Dada and Surrealist poetry, and show maybe even closer connections to the movies of the Marx Brothers, W. C. Fields, and the Ring Lardner of nonsense plays like The Tridget of Greva. They have a style and charm of their own which has given him a certain cult following. An acquired taste, maybe -- but one well worth acquiring.

The Camel's Last Gasp was his last book; consisting of the title story which is a surrealist novella, and some shorter prose pieces and poems.

She wasn't just a child, She was a miracle. Born after generations of prayers and silent yearning, Tejo arrived like the dawn after a long night in the mighty Suryavanshi dynasty. A family built on strength, pride, love and tradition found its heart softened by a pair of tiny hands and eyes that held galaxies. She was their light, their laughter, their moon wrapped in stardust. Even the sternest of men melted before her innocent smile, their proud heads bowed to the little girl who unknowingly ruled them all. But fate, ever watching, never plays fair. One night everything changed. One moment, giggles, blessings and love filled the air. The next, silence. A cruel twist no one saw coming, no one could stop. The light vanished. Just like that. Gone. No warning. No goodbye. Just a void so deep it swallowed the entire family. The Suryavanshis, once unshaken and mighty, crumbled under the weight of their grief. Her absence became a shadow that haunted every sunrise, her name a whisper too sacred to speak aloud. Years went by. Time moved forward, but hearts stayed frozen in the moment she left. And then... the winds shifted again. Tejo returned, no longer the pampered princess she once was. At a young age, she faced countless emotional hardships, far away from the warmth of her family one she didn't even know existed. Life tested her in ways she could never have imagined. But beneath the surface of her silent pain, she found strength. Hiding her emotional wounds behind a calm exterior, she grew resilient not just for herself, but for the unbreakable bond she formed along the way. That bond became her anchor, her reason to keep moving forward. This is the story of Tejo, a girl destined to shine, who found her light even in the darkest of times. Take a deeper look into her journey, one of pain, strength, family and love.......✍️🏻❤
