ADIEU » LES MISÉRABLES
ADIEU /əˈdjuː/ (noun)
In which Enjolras, the renowned marble lover of Liberty, finds himself loving someone other than his homeland, his Patria.
His friends think a crack or two has started to form on the cold surface of his marble heart when he meets the wild and fierce little Claudine in the spring of 1832. She's just as passionate as he is about igniting a change in France, but there's so much more to her, and it amazes him. She shows him the reality of the world, she drags him down from his gilded pedestal and forces him to feel things he has never bothered to feel before. At times she reminds him of fire, other times water, or otherwise just a little spark that throws itself into the fire of his heart, kindling its flames, making it burn brighter than ever.
But as he is falling in love, the world is falling apart. A mere four months after they meet, the June Rebellion arrives. He has long since prepared himself to die for France, and so have the rest of his friends. But what he doesn't know is that Claudine, despite the protests of everyone else, has made the necessary preparations too. He only realises this when the gunfire starts to sound, when smoke starts to cloud his vision, when red starts to stain the cobblestones of the streets.
He hates her for throwing herself into the battle, hates her for saving his life, hates her for everything she's done to his heart over the past few months, only to break it in the end.
But then he finds that there's no time for him to hate. The world is ending, sooner than he has ever expected it to, and he has to learn to say goodbye before it's too late.
An ENJOLRAS X OC fanfiction. Please do not read this if all you're going to do is criticise. Helpful suggestions and encouraging comments are, of course, welcome.
A DISCLAIMER: I do not own Les Misérables. All characters belong to Victor Hugo, with the exception of Claudine and a few others who play an insignificant part in the story
