His hand suddenly moves behind my head, gripping a fistful of my loose hair.

I squeeze my eyes shut, refusing to show the pain.

"What did you just call me?" His voice is low, laced with warning. "Say it again. I dare you."

I force my eyes open. "I said you're acting. Like. A. Child." My voice trembles as his grip tightens.

His eyes darken, something more than anger flickering in them. He leans in, stopping just inches from my neck. My pulse races, my breath hitching as I hold his gaze.

Then, after a long pause, he steps back. Releasing my hair, he smirks, turns on his heel, and walks away-as if nothing ever happened.
