What if there was another Valyrian dragon-riding family besides the Targaryens?
Upon discovering that she and her family are not the last dragon riders remaining after the Doom, Queen Maekara Maltheon embarks on a journey to meet the Targaryens. To her astonishment, it is not the King who comes to greet her, but rather Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen who is determined to prove herself as heir.
There is a fan wiki page of House Maltheon, which I got most of the "lore" from but I may just end up doing my own thing.
