"You're still here?"
"Unfortunately," I muttered, gaze fixed past her.
"I figured you'd have stormed off by now," she said, lips curling into that familiar smirk. "Or did someone forget to feed your royal ego tonight?"
I exhaled, jaw twitching. "If I wanted drama, I'd pick someone quieter."
Her head tilted. "But you keep picking me."
A beat.
I looked at her then.
Really looked.
And for a split second-everything in me paused.

Her brown eyes glaring. "The fuck are you doing?"
"Fixing something that's bothering me." My voice came out calm. Too calm. The kind of calm that meant I wasn't giving her a choice.
"Roy, I'm not-"
I pulled the jersey off in one clean motion. She shoved at my chest, swearing under her breath. My spare was already in my other hand-black and gold, my number, my name across the back.
"You're insane," she hissed.
"Probably," I said, dragging it over her head before she could twist away. It hung loose on her.

"You can't just-"
"I did." My tone didn't lift,
"That stays on you," I said, voice low enough that it was more command than request.

The thought pierced through me, sharp and unforgiving. "I was a fool to believe it was anything more than that-a simple arrangement." I said to myself My hands clenched at my sides as I tried to steady my trembling breaths, but the betrayal I felt refused to loosen its grip.
