"The People Love Their Goodies" is a short story about America in 2054 that's under authoritarian rule because the country voted for Our Leader back in 2032 who promised to give the citizens free stuff (like daycare, college, food, and more) in exchange for following his new One Government policy. That policy stripped all Americans of their rights, and they must follow various new rules set by the new One Government. This change does not sit well with all the citizens, one being Nathan Holloway. After dealing with the new rule for decades he decides to rise up against Our Leader. However, he's arrested and interrogated by the dictator. During this interrogation Nathan tells Our Leader he can sway the American public to follow his lead and rise up. Our Leader gives Nathan the chance to speak to the public through one of the weekly broadcast. Can Nathan convince the citizens to rise up and oust Our Leader? Author's Note: I got the idea for this story while listening to Tim Dillon on The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE #1860). Tim discusses what he expects America's future will be and it's pretty bleak. He believes there will be a time in America where the country has only celebrities as presidents, and the people won't care because the government will give them "goodies." Those goodies will be cash, food, etc.
