Capturing Alexandra | Book 1 in The
Oceanic Secret Trilogy
Hear ye all merfolk citizens, the ancient prophecy foretells the future of the
There be a mermaid child
With a tail of blue
Who shall violate the laws,
Break the forbidden rules.
At the hands of an alien
She will be forcefully taken
To an island prison,
Her future forsaken.
But she has strong wills
And will find a way
To break the glass,
To go astray.
From this moment on, our lives are at risk.
The humans will know of our being below,
Because of the persistent child
Whose leave went unknown.
All young Merfolk listen to the Elder's stories-- legends, you might call them-- about humans. We learn never to trust the vile beasts that inhabit the land, to never come in close proximity with them, and most of all, never to be seen by one.
Even as a young child I loved the land. I was fascinated by the Elder's legends about the humans, and I wanted to learn everything I could about the species. Much to my parent's disliking, my curiosity with the two-legged creatures only grew as I aged, and eventually cost me my freedom.
On my seventeenth birthday my life was changed forever. I fell asleep on a rock near a beach and accidentally exposed myself to humans. They sold me to an aquarium, a place where children go to press their faces against glass enclosures and gawk at odd creatures that inhabit the sea.
All I want now is to feel the oceanic currents on my scales, to have the ability to swim vast distances, and to see my family again. Am I doomed to spend the rest of my life in captivity? Or will I be able to escape the greedy creatures who rule the land?
