Esme had one big fear in life: being captured as a thief by the city's guardsmen and being executed for her crimes, and that so heavily weighed on her mind that she increased her risks by being distracted in the middle of a heist. That's when she runs into Althalos Fourthborn: Inner Circle Guardsman, one of the many princes of the realm, an Aelif (Dark Elf, local dialect)...and her betrothed by treaty. (That was something her almost human mind could not handle.) So she calls off the heist, gets demoted into a far more risky job, learns the true bitter depth of what this treaty's bond is like, and lands safely by her prince's side....sort of. There were people who still wanted to end her life, even if she was in what most people would call a Happily Ever After. That and her prince had his own living fears that were gnawing at any chance they had. That and she might just lose her mind from everyday boredom. But the one she couldn't wrap her all-too human mind around was that she would one day grow wings and fly away from her almost Happily Ever After to live in a hive with ancestors more alien than a hottie with pointed ears and abandonment issues. ~~~~ Yes, there are adult themes in this book, and difficult subjects, but nothing is excessive, as this is probably my simplest story. So, trigger warnings: A history of assault. Occasional vulgar language. References to partial cannibaliam. Extremely mild, light, and rare sex scenes. At least one elitist mentality. ~~~~ Ages of MC/ML: Esme: Apparent age of 24, roughly 20 years lived (mostly human). Althalos: Apparent age of 30, roughly 65 years lived (Elves mature slower).
Ember's Bounty by ShatteredRealm
2 parts Ongoing
Ember has one job-track down nightmares that slip from the dream realm and destroy them before they wreak havoc in the waking world. But when a fractured nightmare escapes, tearing open unstable rifts between realms, Ember finds himself tangled in more problems than he signed up for. A fragile balance holds the dream realm together, and it's rapidly unraveling. As more nightmare creatures spill into reality, Ember reluctantly finds himself tangled up with a band of misfits: a manic fae who can't keep his hands to himself, a shifter struggling to keep his own instincts in check, and a hidden mage who seems to attract sharp edges like a curse-each with their own motives, secrets, and grudges. To make matters worse, a seemingly ordinary human girl has somehow wandered into the Dream Realm, a place no mortal should survive. The hunt for her is relentless-by nightmares and hunters alike. Some believe she holds the key to stabilizing the realms, while others fear she might be the final thread unraveling everything. As Ember fights to contain the chaos, he begins to suspect that none of this is random. Something-or someone-is pulling the strings, and the closer he gets to the truth, the more his own past comes back to haunt him. To stop the collapse of reality itself, Ember must do what he does best: hunt. But this time, he isn't sure if the real nightmare is the creatures he fights-or the people he needs to trust. Days of the Dead Book 1: The Thief's End

17 parts Complete

Kit Wren is an inter-dimensional thief, enslaved by some malevolent spirit and force to scrounge through space-time for choice artifacts. His adventures take him across time and the globe, hoping one day to find treasure worthy enough to trade to his cruel master in return for what he wants the most: his voice. His current conquest is a fabled wizard, the now legendary Gideon Saint, of Wales. And Kit may have just met his match. Sequel series to 'Last Knights of Cambria', with some reoccurring characters. Ahem, good people die, bad people live, everyone is inexplicably gay. Robbery. Haunted tombs. Murder. Revenge. Sick burns. Chaos. Drama. What's not to love? Yes, you may learn something about history but that's a risk you're going to have to take. Yes Henry V does show up and yes he's still awesome. Richard the Lionheart is also in this one. This pick-your-problematic-English-monarch-to-simp-for game is getting harder. Trigger/Content Warnings: Some blood and gore. Fantasy violence. Some brief profanity, as well as a couple of homophobic slurs. Slightly more graphic and violent than the Last Knights of Cambia series, though nothing overt. Some mild sensuality, two character kiss. It is discussed characters have kissed. Another two characters embrace in what could be perceived as a romantic manner. Family/domestic violence that may be upsetting to some readers.
