A Thousand Stars
Linda Token had a firm belief that one day she would be a star. Not the kind in movies or singing songs, but the kind in the sky; the ones that glitter and move, and supposedly, the ones that are no longer there. It was her religion. She worshipped the moon, prayed to the planets.
That's why, when Linda dies in a car crash, Phoenix isn't as affected as she "should" be. And that's why Phoenix thinks she can move forward without the scars that are always talked about in books.
But in comes Ethan, with his notion that death is an end and not a beginning, and Phoenix's world is thrown upside down. She comes to the realization that perhaps death isn't as delicate as life, and maybe, just maybe, Ethan's right when he says that the end doesn't have to be fair and true. Sometimes you can't be reborn, but that's the reason to keep the memory of those around you as alive as your own self.
