How far would you go to keep a promise?

When twelve-year-old Oliver Ainsworth promised his life to Avery Hastings, she never believed him. After years apart, through war and tragedy, it seems even more likely that he's forgotten her entirely. And she's moved on as well.

Haunted by their parents' gruesome murder and the overbearing debt they'd left behind, Avery and her sister both sell themselves into different trades to make their livings, to pay back the murderer before he comes for them too. As for Oliver? The war came for him just like it came for every other young boy in their village. Or so Avery thinks.

Until her employment with a wealthy family in France forces their two worlds to collide once more and she learns there's far more to the boy she knew than she could have ever imagined.

Bound by a contract neither of them ever signed, they must come together again after years apart, after being worlds away, after becoming different people. A contract which states that they are overdue for their own wedding. But, after a lengthy engagement, when Oliver gives Avery the chance to opt out... will she even want to?

Jiu Qiansui - Nine Thousand Years [Completed] by CeritanyaNyai
154 parts Complete
In the 23rd year of the Longfeng reign, the Crown Prince of the Eastern Palace had been deposed for five years. Once a figure of otherworldly grace, he was banished to the imperial mausoleum, crushed under endless humiliation. That same year, the Emperor, blinded by the pursuit of immortality, let the West Bureau eunuchs seize power. At the helm was Xue Shu, the Chief Eunuch of the West Bureau-a man whose influence eclipsed the court, silencing opposition with a single wave of his hand. Even the throne itself danced to his tune. Princes grovelled and schemed, desperate to curry favor, hoping he would elevate them to the imperial seat. But no one could've guessed that Xue Shu would one day retrieve the deposed Crown Prince from exile and personally help him ascend to the throne. The once untouchable, iron-fisted eunuch, who held the empire in his grasp, willingly knelt at the feet of the resplendent new Emperor, offering himself as nothing more than a footstool. On the eve of the enthronement ceremony, Yin Chengyu bathed and burned incense. The infamous Nine Thousand Years (Jiuqian Sui) cradled the imperial robes in his arms, personally dressing the future Emperor. In the full-length bronze mirror, the scarlet-robed Chief Eunuch of the West Bureau wrapped his arms around the Emperor-to-be, lowering his head to breathe in his scent, his voice a husky whisper laced with a mocking smile: "Your Majesty has finally achieved your ambitions. Might you grant me the chance to fulfill mine?" But it was all a dream. Yin Chengyu woke, yanked from the memories of his past life. It was the 17th year of Longfeng. He was still the noble and untouchable Crown Prince. His mother's family had yet to be slaughtered, and he hadn't been confined to the mausoleum, isolated and helpless. There was still a chance to change his fate-by roping in that scheming eunuch and wagering everything on one final, desperate gamble. Then he met Xue Shu again.

It's always been the two of us since I remember, as Tom (my dad) left us when I was just a toddler. He never accepted mum's complete dedication to music and I think this is what caused them to break up. I'll never forgive him for giving up on us, and even more for not being there when mum fell ill. But he was too busy raising his new family I guess. And now that we have to live under the same roof, I feel like he’s no more than a stranger to me. Fortunately, I still have my music. No matter what happens around me, I know that I can always find refuge in music. It's hard to explain but as I sit at the piano the world hushes and my soul starts to sings. And I still have my Big Dream - to get into Julliard and become a great pianist as my Mum. The most famous conservatory in the world and New York City are waiting for me! I just have to nail an important audition that is just a few weeks away.. Fingers crossed!!
