The Test. The Border. The War. All of it was mysterious. All of it had pieces missing, scrambled explanations, and impossible outcomes. But Finley Masters was the solution to all of it.
After receiving her test results which put her at The Fence on the Border of Marsdon -once known as The Windy City- things begin to unravel and start to become unhinged. The only clues she had to what any of it meant were the journals left to her by her biological mother whom she discovers lived and died in The Fringe- a city beyond the city's shadow connected to a military installation that was built during the War. But she wasn't alone.
Ben Ward, the outcast and topic of the rumor mill in the city, had a secret that he couldn't share with anyone except one person- Finley. As they work together under the supervision of Markus, the Officer who trains them for the Border, they quickly learn they know more about each other than anybody else. As Finley continues to read the journals, she soon begins to understand that Ben had been part of her life since her early years.
The journals only bring them closer as they learn that everything is corrupt. The city is ruled by tyrants. They were unsafe inside the city, and even at the Border. Markus was their only hope, and only way out. The Fringe was their salvation, as was ARIAT. The biggest piece of the puzzle that will piece everything together, and set everything in motion for Finley and Ben to save their city from it's unruly Mayor and the impending danger that will soon take over once again, bringing on a second War that none of them are prepared for.
